DNS
Domain Name System
The list of settings for your domain. It tells the internet which server your website is on and where your email should go. Think of it as the internet’s address book.
How does DNS work?
When someone types your website address, their browser asks DNS which server number to go to. DNS answers based on the entries (records) set in your domain’s dashboard. A change usually takes effect within minutes, sometimes a few hours, and some registrars say up to 48 hours.
Where do you change DNS settings?
In the dashboard of the company where the domain was bought (the registrar), in a section called “DNS”, “DNS Records” or “Advanced DNS”. When you move a website, you change only the website records and leave the email records as they are.
